Huawei's DigiTruck

During the conclusion of the Connected Africa Summit in Kenya, Huawei, the global technology giant based in China, unveiled its DigiTruck digital literacy initiative aimed at enhancing digital skills in the country.

Presided over by Eliud Owalo, Cabinet Secretary for Information and Communications Technology and the Digital Economy, alongside Huawei Kenya's Deputy CEO, Steven Zhang, the launch marked a significant step towards bridging the digital divide.

Addressing delegates at the event, Zhang emphasized Huawei's commitment to fostering innovation for a more inclusive and sustainable world, stating, "Together with our partners, we are committed to innovating technologies and solutions that make the world a more inclusive and sustainable space for all."

Owalo commended the initiative and expressed optimism about its potential to reach youth in Kenya's remote areas, acknowledging the critical role it plays in advancing digital literacy across the nation.

The centerpiece of Huawei's initiative, the DigiTruck, is a mobile digital classroom housed within a modified shipping container. Spanning 12 meters in length, the truck boasts a digital ecosystem equipped with smart gadgets such as laptops, screens, virtual reality (VR) headsets, cellphones, and routers.

The Huawei ICT Talent Development project, which encompasses the DigiTruck initiative, the Huawei ICT Academy, and the Huawei ICT Competitions, underscores Huawei's commitment to nurturing digital talent and empowering communities through technology-driven education.
