Bolt now lets users book rides through ChatGPT

Ride-hailing platform Bolt has announced a global integration with ChatGPT, enabling users to search for rides, compare fares and transfer bookings to the Bolt app directly from conversations with the artificial intelligence platform.

The company said the integration, announced on Monday, makes Bolt's services accessible to ChatGPT's 900 million weekly users for the first time, reflecting the growing role of AI in how consumers plan and book everyday activities.

Under the new feature, users can interact with Bolt within ChatGPT to receive an upfront fare estimate, compare route options, check estimated driver arrival times and identify the most convenient pickup location before completing the booking in the Bolt app.

According to Bolt, the feature is designed to reduce waiting times and simplify the ride booking process by allowing users to plan their journeys without switching between multiple applications.

AI changing how people plan travel

Commenting on the launch, Senior General Manager, Bolt West Africa, Teddy Appah Dankyi, said artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming the primary channel through which consumers organise their travel.

"People don't plan their evening in five different apps anymore. A lot of that planning happens in one conversation with AI now," he said.

"For years, booking a ride meant opening a dedicated ride hailing app. As more everyday interactions take place through AI, we think requesting a ride should be just as straightforward: ask, see the price, and go."

The company cited findings from Accenture's Consumer Pulse Research 2025, which surveyed 18,000 consumers across 14 countries, showing that 80% of travellers globally now use AI tools for travel purposes.

According to the report, more than half of respondents said they would be willing to allow AI to fully manage their travel arrangements, highlighting the increasing adoption of conversational AI for trip planning and mobility services.

Payments remain on the Bolt app

While users can initiate ride requests through ChatGPT, Bolt said payments will continue to be processed through the Bolt app at launch.

The company, however, disclosed plans to introduce in app payments within ChatGPT in the future, allowing customers to complete the entire ride booking process without leaving the AI platform.

The rollout is part of a broader shift by technology companies to integrate digital services into conversational AI platforms as users increasingly rely on AI assistants to search, plan and complete everyday tasks.
