PEBEC names NCC among best-performing government agencies in 2025

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has named the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) as one of the top five best-performing federal agencies for 2025 under its Transparency and Efficiency category. The telecoms regulator earned the recognition alongside the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (overall winner), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (second place), the Nigeria Customs Service, and the Nigerian Ports Authority.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at the PEBEC Awards and Gala Night held at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja. The awards spotlight public institutions that demonstrate measurable improvements in transparency, operational efficiency, and service delivery.

PEBEC said the NCC earned its place for its “commitment to openness, accountability and operational excellence in Public Service Delivery.”

NCC reacts to recognition

Receiving the award on behalf of the Commission, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the recognition validates ongoing reforms and underscores the NCC’s focus on improving regulatory outcomes in the telecoms sector.

“The Commission is proud to be listed among the Top Five Best-Performing Federal Government Agencies for 2025. This recognition affirms the values that guide our work—transparency, accountability, and a commitment to regulatory excellence,” Maida said.

He added that the award places further responsibility on the NCC to maintain high standards while ensuring a business environment that supports investment, competition, and improved quality of service.

“Nigerians can rest assured that we will not rest on our oars. We remain committed to ensuring that telecom consumers receive the highest quality of service supported by a fair, transparent, and competitive industry,” he said.

PEBEC highlights progress in business climate reforms

PEBEC Director-General Zahrah Mustapha-Audu described the ceremony as a celebration of reform champions driving improvements in Nigeria’s business environment. She said the Council’s efforts—under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima—continue to be guided by intentional reforms, accountability, and data-driven implementation.

“The achievements we acknowledge are the tangible result of a collective resolve to make Nigeria the most attractive and predictable competitive destination for business in Africa,” she noted.

VP Shettima: Awards show government’s reform momentum

In his remarks, Vice President Shettima said the awards reflect the administration’s commitment to strengthening public institutions and boosting investor confidence through improved efficiency.

“The reforms that make it easier to do business, that restore confidence, and that ensure our institutions work in the spirit of national growth all depend on collaboration,” the VP said. “When we work together across MDAs, across states and sectors, Nigeria wins.”
