The Nigeria Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) on Thursday inducted 147 new members from the South-West Zone to strengthen professionalism in engineering practice.

The induction ceremony was held at the Digital Bridge Institute in Lagos.

The theme of the event was: “Strengthening Compliance and Enforcement Framework in Engineering Practice: A Pathway to Sustainable National Development.”

In his remarks, the NATE National President, Mr Dominic Udoatan, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to upholding professional ethics and standards in the engineering sector.

“NATE has a non-negotiable tradition upholding the standard and ethics of the profession. Anyone who meets all the registration criteria and is qualified will be inducted as a corporate member,” he said.

According to him, membership of NATE qualifies individuals to register as engineering technologists with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

Udoatan described the induction as a milestone that would enhance Nigeria’s technological growth and national development.

“The role of technology in the development of any country cannot be overemphasised. It remains the bedrock of national development,” he added.

The NATE Vice President, Mr Sunday Tokede, expressed delight over the large turnout of past leaders and founding members, describing it as unprecedented in the association’s history.

“We are privileged, especially from the South-West Zone, to witness this level of participation from our pioneers. It is a great motivation for our new members,” he said.

Also, the National General Secretary, Mr Kayode Ibidapo, congratulated the new inductees and urged them to uphold the ethics of the profession.

“The essence of this induction is to ensure members practice right, free from fraudulent acts or quackery, so we can jointly drive national development.

“Being part of a professional body comes with responsibility; our ethics and laws must be strictly adhered to,” he said.

Ibidapo noted that the inductees, drawn from Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti States, had undergone various training and would continue to participate in seminars, workshops, and technical sessions to improve their competence.

Some inductees expressed excitement and appreciation for the opportunity to be part of the association.

Mr Ayinde Solomon from Oyo State said: “I have been dreaming of this moment for years. I thank God for this achievement and promise to uphold the standards of the profession.”

Another inductee, Mr Dare Olusoji, a graduate of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, described the induction as a dream come true.

“I am happy to be part of this profession. Being inducted into NATE comes with great responsibilities, and I am determined to live up to them,” he said.

A female inductee, Ms Rosemary Esuola from the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), said the milestone would spur her to contribute more to national growth.

“It’s another stepping stone for me as a chemical engineering technologist. I hope to make meaningful contributions to national development, starting from my community and workplace,” she said.

The induction marked a major step in NATE’s efforts to promote professionalism, strengthen compliance, and advance the role of technology in Nigeria’s sustainable development.
