The Airtel Africa Foundation has launched applications for its new Undergraduate Tech Scholarship in Nigeria, targeting first-year university students pursuing technology and ICT-related degrees. The programme is designed to ease financial barriers for young Nigerians with strong academic potential and support their early training in technology-focused disciplines.
The scholarship covers full tuition, accommodation support, and essential study materials for eligible 100-level students. It is part of the Foundation’s broader F.E.E.D. initiative, which focuses on Financial Empowerment, Education, Environmental Protection, and Digital Inclusion across Airtel’s African markets.
A push to support young tech talent
Airtel Nigeria CEO, Dinesh Balsingh, urged students to apply, describing education as a key driver of national development.
He said the company aims to create avenues for young Nigerians to learn, innovate, and contribute to the country’s expanding technology ecosystem.
“Education is one of the most powerful tools for national development,” he said. “As an organisation, Airtel is determined to build a platform for aspiring young Nigerians to learn, innovate and lead in the country’s expanding technology landscape.”
- Students pursuing courses in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, and other ICT-related programmes are eligible to apply.
- The scholarship is currently open to applicants enrolled at the University of Lagos, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Benin, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ilorin, and Tai Solarin University of Education.
Building the next generation of digital leaders
Chairman of the Airtel Africa Foundation, Dr Segun Ogunsanya, said the scholarship reflects the organisation’s focus on equipping young Africans with the resources they need to succeed in the digital economy. According to him, many young people have the talent but lack the financial support required to pursue their academic goals.
“Young Africans are brimming with talent and ambition. What many need is a fair chance to pursue their education without financial pressure,” he said. “This scholarship reflects our belief that investing in their growth will strengthen communities, empower families, and expand the continent’s digital future.”
