BBNaija followers cry foul over failed SMS votes

Followers of the BBNaija game show are currently enraged over the rejection of their votes through Short Message Service (SMS) even after being charged. Many of them woke up this morning to receive messages that their votes cast yesterday had been rejected.

While some are blaming the service providers, others are alleging that the organisers deliberately did not allow their votes to count to favour a particular housemate.

The angry fans are also demanding a refund of their money since their votes were rejected. While normal SMS across networks in the country costs N4.00, an SMS to vote contestants in the game costs N30.00.

However, one of the network operators, MTN, in response to its subscribers’ complaints on Twitter, said it has no control over the votes that pass through its network. “Kindly note that MTN is not in control of the shortcode you sent your BBnaija voting to and does not have access to accept or reject your votes,” the operator stated.

One of the angry followers of the show posted on Twitter: “I sent my last set of SMS votes at past 8 pm. That’s about two whole hours before voting was to end. This morning I woke up to rejected votes saying voting has closed! When exactly does voting close? I would like a full refund please.”

“How did we even get to this point where people will use their hard earn income to vote and their votes won’t count. This is a fraud and we must fix it now. Because I can’t imagine thousands of people who are affected,” another follower of the show ranted.

As at the time of filing this report, organisers of the show are yet to make any formal comment on what led to the mass rejection of vote and whether the money would be refunded to those whose votes were not counted but got debited.
